How To Reduce Negative Impacts Of Mining Operation On The Environment

If not properly managed and well conducted, mining exploration, inevitably, becomes one of the most destructive industries to our environment. Mining is really able to damage ecosystem and cause land degradation as well as air, water and land pollution. In addition, it also has negative impact to human health and leads to many social, economic and political disturbances.

On the other hand, the mining industry, however, plays very significant role in our economy. The mining activities of course increase more employment, people's income that leads to the raise of the demand for goods and services and tax incomes for states. Needless to say, the mining industry will lead the economic expansion and decrease the poverty.

Therefore, it is the challenge to find ways and methods to reduce the negative impact derived from the mining operation. The following are some ways how to at least minimize the environment damage caused by mining operation:

1. The mining company should conduct proper and deep research before mining operation. The research is to identify and minimize the bad impact of this operation on environment as well as how to effectively use the mineral resources.
2. Reducing the mineral consumption. People should reduce the consumer goods using mineral products. For example: we can use public transit instead of personal cars to decrease the fuel consumption.
3. Making substitution with more environmentally friendly materials. For example: to make appliances, we substitute metal with plastic.
4. Recycling used materials to reduce new materials mined. It takes far less energy to recycle discarded materials (like tin cans) than to extract, process, and refine metals from ore. For example, to produce aluminums, we take 95% less energy when using recycling materials rather than from bauxite ore.
5. Improving environmental performance. By systematically examining the impacts of mining on environment, it is still possible to minimize the bad impacts of mining.
6. Creating regulations and mining guide to improve environmental performances that have to be abided by the mining companies and some penalties that are failed to obey. Here, the government plays significant roles to control the mining operation.
7. Adapting new and innovative technology to carry out the best mining processes and practices in order to reduce the environmental pollution to our environment.

Finally, we realize that mining operation indeed brings bad impacts on our environments if improperly managed. What we can do is how to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of mineral exploration on ecosystem. With those points described above, we hope that the mining company really pay attention and be responsible of the balanced ecosystem and environment.
